InfoSec — Introduction to Information Security

This course provides engineers and project managers in a range of sectors (e.g. Defence, Transport, Commercial etc.) with an appreciation of the Information Security issues relating to systems development. Attendees will get an overview of the main processes required for designing more secure systems. Exercises will provide consolidation of the theory presented.

Infosec is cost-effective and integral to systems engineering

Information Security (Infosec) is often seen as an expensive and unnecessary burden to system implementation and operation. Yet well-publicised security breaches of today's systems are evidence of inadequate protection and an integrated engineering approach can actually reduce the overall cost of system development. Cost savings come where protection of information assets is an integral aspect of a system's fitness for purpose and through avoiding the need for expensive re-engineering to achieve system integrity.

Free yourself from continual reliance on expensive InfoSEC engineers

Increase your capabilities while reducing costs, risks and reliance on external consultancy. Through knowledge/ skill transfer your teams get the expertise and knowledge to ensure systems engineering projects run smoothly and deliver results. This is backed-up with support via top-up training, engineering resources and advice. Increase your teams' capabilities and save money by only calling in experts when you need them.

Training Objectives

This course will provide an introduction to Information Security within the scope of systems engineering along with its dependence and impact on other disciplines. At the end the course participants will have a better understanding of how to achieve a more coherent system development approach incorporating inherent security architectures.

A Training Objective (TO) is a precise statement of the skills and knowledge following any training session. The table below details the TOs for the Introduction to Information Security Course.

Session Training Objective
Session 1 Information Security — Definition and Scope
Session 2 Security Architectures — What and Why
Session 3 Mitigation Strategies
Session 4 The Information Assurance Lifecycle
Session 5 Security and Systems Engineering (Impact with other domains)
Session 6 Q&A

Innovative top-up training for long-term results

The fast-paced world of software and systems engineering puts increasing demand on businesses, teams and individuals to provide robust solutions to new challenges quickly and on budget. Keeping skills and knowledge up-to-date doesn't just save time and cut costs, it's essential to stay competitive.

Training that's there when
you need it

Skills and focus fade over time after training. ALS Top-up Training Scheme counteracts this without tying up key staff for long periodsWhat's training for if it's not for delivering immediate and long-lasting benefits? Our highly effective and low cost top-up training spreads/ lowers the cost of training and provides timely techniques that can be put to use immediately into the project lifecycle.
